Really appreciate your merging of art history and learning to paint. Thanks!👍🎨🙏🌻
how many layers are we talking about?
Overpainting a student's work is not an honorable teaching technique...so bad i cannot watch. As he says..if IWANT...his student is broken. Its NOT fun to paint " with" him...its demeaning. EGOIST
Best lesson on turner on RUclips.
Thank you, dylanduke1075, we really appreciate your generous comment! Turner is a favorite artist of ours and we loved seeing the places that he painted in Venice. Thank you for watching and writing! Kind regards, Connie and David
@@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt thanks for the response. Could I make a suggestion? Would it be possible to do a lesson on how to push/exaggerate colour and move away from strict interpretation? Like for example, how do you decide on colours when trying to make a scene more interesting than just copying precisely from your reference. I really don’t think there’s a lot on RUclips on that topic
God I love you teaching. Is there any chance you could delve into turners and monets use of colour - pushing colour beyond that which is strictly representational? And maybe turners messy atmospheric brush marks and why they work (such as in the burning of the Houses of Parliament)?
I'm right brain dominated. Ur helping me with explaining it scientifically. I'm an edge detector now!!!
Love this, will be back.
I hear things I didn't hear the first time I watched this.
Thank you, Dan! We are happy that you enjoyed it! It means so much to us to hear from you. All the best, Connie and David
it's funny how you have to learn the rules of detail with the end goal being able to ignore them
Such a brilliant artist, and such a brilliant mind, jumping from ancient Egypt, to renaissance, to psychology, to biology, thesism, to paper towels and men in black all whilst creating a master piece. Absolutely engaging and absorbing. Peace be upon you sir.
A thinking man's Bob Ross 😂
Really fascinating, bringing history to highlight what Dunlop is attempting on the paper.
As a artist I learn alot from Mr. Dunlops videos but always always just enjoy watching and listening, thank you
Love manifest!
Six years ago? What I've been missing!😮❤

Wonderful!

For sure you are not Van Gogh but you are a genius artist that I have chance to see your amazing videos and learn a lot.👏🌸
Wow. I just discovered you. Wow, I love what you say and how you paint.
Thank you, for enabling, seeing again or freedom, especially today and the confines of "realism." It is OK to be that free!
Thank you for sharing :)
Why cover up EVERY SHOT with words and letters instead of showing the paintings unmolested? What a waste.
Are you serious? This is a painting tutorial, not an art gallery.
I don’t understand what surface you’re painting on ???❤thanks for sharing
I am so enjoying your videos and I feel so grateful to you for your generosity. You are so the right teacher for me . I feel and relate to your way of seeing things in so many ways. I love that you are both playful and share intellectual things with us. You have gained so much knowledge and I really appreciate your work. You’re work is extraordinary and I feel honored to have you cross my path .and am grateful to you for so generously sharing it… it’s wonderful to know you and share this incredible work I so love to learn and to paint and you are teaching me so much . I can’t thank you enough for being my great and inspiring teacher and for being such a wonderful human being. You are a true light being… so keep shining 💫✨we need you ❤
I really enjoyed watching the demo. Will try for sure. Could I do the same technique on ampersand board rather than aluminium?
I feel like I don't need to watch any other artist. I have found my mentor David. Your tutorials are THE best. I have learnt sooo much since I discovered your amazing art. Thank you so much. You brought Abstract art down to my level of understanding!! Lots of love Debs in Spain❤
What is with the gloves?
Greetings from Brazil, Mr. Dunlop. It is a great pleasure seeing you painting and making comments in Giverny. I appreciate your work enormously. Congratulations.
Anytime we mention time, its an imaginary myth.
Van Gogh-ing that gal’s painting was the best, quick lesson I’ve ever seen.
Brilliant!
Thanks , i very much enjoyed this program 💕
Your program has given me a greater respect for all the great artists like Sargent. A really fascinating proggram.
Great episode!!

Surely he was a man in his prime I'm sure he painted exactly what he's saying. But( at his age) he probably ( he could not see clearly) that's why everything's so muted and( blurred ) which is not my favorite thing... so sad 😢
Thank you so much for your videos...I love your history of Art lesson while painting and breakdown of technique. All the best from Italy
Dear Rosalee - Thank you very much!We are happy that you watched our programs and enjoyed them. Thank you for writing to us! Kind regards, David and Connie
A second time watching this excellent tutorial for what I consider a very difficult landscape subject. I've been trying to figure out how to paint a photograph I took of a mouth of a creek, on a beach full of river stones as far as the horizon can see. I will definitely use a lot of the techniques used here. THANK YOU, excellent tutorial.
Thank you so much, Walter. These type of scenes are so exciting to paint and we are delighted you enjoyed the program Kind regards, David and Connie
History class, painting class, thank you, so helpful..love your videos..
